The Real End of the Tour

Tonight's show was a fitting end. Beautimous! As I usually do, I will leave the setlist to someone else (please, Fish!) but I believe it's the one we've all come to know. They played for two hours, and threw all the covers back in (Boogie Fever completely instrumental -- funky as HELL, I was dancing my ass off) -- plus some new little treats. For half the show I was two folks deep, the last half I was up banging on the stage. There was enough room to pretty much do as you pleased. Interesting venue... fairly large hall with a concrete floor and folded seats halfway back, with a dedicated merchandising area 'round the corner. Hate to say it (and ALWAYS hate to see it), it wasn't nearly as full as it should've been.
They seemed really happy tonight, lots of smiles, extra playful and enjoying the hell out of themselves... Dim was up to speed, dug that! Joie tossed out the usual comments about the Arizona heat, though right now it's about as gorgeous as it gets out here. Mike had some lovely comments about how great their fans have been throughout the tour and how they'll be back at it after the short winter break.
Ask the Dust was unbelievable tonight, I don't know why exactly. I swear it was twenty minutes long. What really pissed me off was that during the most wonderfully quiet moment in that tune (you know the one), someone's cell phone went off. Add that to the "Things I Hate" post. Uggh. Joie got his moment with a Glitter tune, and Phil came out on guitar with a BJ tune (that was a first for me, I'd love to hear him do some more singing)!
Finally got a pick from Mike... I was so close to him tonight that I felt like we were singing together in my living room, it was great!! Meet and greet went as usual, hugs and kisses, you know... Had them sign the live disc, and my cousin Gogo got Mike's setlist thanks to one FISH who was kind enough to stretch his entire body across the stage to snatch it after the show. She had such an incredible time at this show, she couldn't shut up about how amazing all three of these gents are and how PERFECT dada is as a whole.
I am completely scattered and barely know what I'm writing I'm so tired. Maybe I'll go on more later, and post pics of the stuff we scored and got signed when I'm not so blissfully exhausted. Good to meet you and chitchat Fish -- hope you got that recording; you too Diana, and thanks loads for all that cool stuff you put together. Earrings and buttons... you're damned dedicated! Too bad you were being watched.
Hi Jeremy! You, too Merch Nick - keep your clothes on. February = secret treats.
Thank you dada for all the music and all the years -- and mostly for this past tour... for giving your all every damned time and making my face hurt from smiling. Have a great break, your fans love you.

Well I'll guess I'll start with saying it was very nice meeting BluBaby, her cousin GoGo, and Diana. Especially seeing as how Bluebaby and myself were far removed from our hometowns, but yet got to see the final dada show of '03. As always, the turnout should have been better and this was a large venue, so I might guess that 150 people were there, as I had ticket number 58.
Here's the setllist, they played for 2 hours!
Dim
Playboy In Outerspace
Trip with my dad
Feet to the sun
Here today, gone tomorrow
Heaven and nowhere
Ask the dust
Complications of Glitter - Joie acoustic
It's all mine
Feel me
Boogie fever jam
Mary sunshine rain
Moon
- Drum solo-
Posters
Dizz knee land
It's cool dude - phil acoustic
California dreaming
Baby really loves me
Dorina
I was able to record the show. Unfortunate the sound guy sucked, and this night he had Joie's bass level clipping, so it was distorting pretty heavily when he played hard, especially the low notes. I should have known, although my recordings are only as good as what the sound guy puts out through the PA system, but I was at a show the night before (at this venue) and he had the kick drum overloaded then, so it screwed up that recording. I'm going to try to somehow fix this, as otherwise, it would have been a great recording, but it still turned out ok, I guess.
Well, at least I made 3 shows this tour, which matched the total number of times I saw them over the course of 6 years in the 90's. Hopefully I'll see at least 3 more next year, and get to hangout and talk dada with other board members.

Bring it on!
Ricky Fitts: That sucks.
Lester Burnham: No, actually it was great. All I did was party and get laid. I had my whole life ahead of me.

All I can say is I was lucky enough to see them 5 times this last tour. I thought I'd never see them again. I can't wait for the next tour to support "5".
Bring it on!
Except I only got to see 'em twice....
But he's not there.
Oh, how I wish that wasn't so,
I'll always love a dog named Beau."

Oh, BluBaby, did I meet you here in Minneapolis back at the October show?? Been meaning to ask you that...
Jen--two is good!! After years and years of waiting, I can't believe we were all fortunate enough to see them as many times as we did this year. 2003....aaahh, what a very good year.

Ditto Blubaby!!!!
I too was fortunate enough to catch the boyz show twice this year. I am looking forward to starting out the new year with Joie and hopefully sometime there soon after snagging a copy of #5 on their next tour.
Thank you Joie, Mike and Phil for sharing your talents and yourselves unconditionally!

Had a great time and was amazed with the talent in the band.
I ended up buying a sweater, CDs and a nice lady gave me a couple stickers.

Finally back from the desert and that dada show was definitely a highlight! Everybody out there was sick with the nasty flu -- even M.G. was a little under the weather, even though it was completely invisible to us during the show -- so I'm glad to be back where bugs and other nasty things actually die in the winter. Yeesh!
Here are the signed goodies I promised to post pictures of... shirt and new MG geetar pick on the left, set list on the right. (Truth be told, the shirt was signed back in August at Recher in Towson and I felt the need to wear it again -- Phil added the smiley face this time around to inject a little color. Joie, of course, refused to alter his original art in any way.)

Ready for more... Anxious to see Joie in a few short weeks!
