I live(pretty much all my life) in Rockford but I had other things planned for last night, not to mention I bought tickets to Chicago show 2 months ago.
Rockford's music scene is bland(and yes I am being kind) to say the least. I went to the show where they opened for Cheap Trick at a festival called "On The Waterfront" in '98.They were good but Rockford does not care for the "new".If you watch the video on this site of that show(I was standing about 10 feet from the photographer),you see that there is not too many people around.

Side note:Dada's opening act here last night was The Snaggs, who's lead singer just happens to be Robin Zanders daughter!

Rockford suffers from the stigma of the "not in my town"syndrome.
Do not get me wrong, this is a nice middle class, dare I say working class town but the thinking of most of the people here is not "forward",from the politicians on down.

Wish I had went, but like I said,I was obligated to another last night.

I think they're all worn out from dancing hard all night.

(shaking off the cobwebs...)

The show last night was unbelievably awesome - as soon as they started off their set with Dim I knew it was going to be great. The club was nice and small, the sound was good and loud, and the band - well the band just kicked ass. Got to talk with Joie and Phil for a little bit afterwards too... Side note: the opening band had made some t-shirts with various 'dada-esque' sayings printed on them. Ms. Zander's said 'chamomile'. Can't wait for tonight at Park West....

we were saying the same thing after their first tune - talked to them a little bit on the way into the Chicago show and they were still happy/grateful that they landed that gig....

I grew up in Rockford and remember when the place at the corner of State and Main (which I believe is now Kryptonite) was a sports bar with a boxing ring in the center of the room.

Sounds as if things have definintely improved.

DADA = Excellent show!

They rocked in Rockford. Too bad Rockford radio didn't play any of their stuff to promote the show.

dada was a beam of light in a dim music scene.

I was the lil girl feeling so lucky to get all of that 'attention' from joie during the Rockford show.....:D I just wrote up a post about the Rockford and Chicago shows among other things...there was another girl whose husband was videotaping the Rockford show. We were gonna exchange numbers after the show, but we forgot to (a roadie took my coat and I thought it was lost, kinda flipped me out)!! Anyone know her? I put out a call for her in my review post! I need a copy of that video...thanks anyone in advance.

I was one of the lucky ones to make it to club Kryptonite to see the Thursday April 17, 2003 Dada show. The club only holds about 180 people and was apparently filled to capacity. It is a great little bar with a modern industrial vibe that somehow still feels comfortable. The club is across the street from what used to be the Main Event Sports Bar (see Convexity below). I’m not sure how the owner was able to get Dada to play in such a small venue but it is definitely a night to be remembered. They owner had a lighted Dada sign custom made for the show that was based on the upper left hand corner of the Puzzle CD (nice touch that the band commented upon).

As for Dada they were amazing. They were tighter than most large touring acts despite having taken such a long hiatus. They literally didn't miss a beat. I was up front and got to see the interplay between the band members, as well as, with the audience. They looked like they were having a great time and enjoying the opportunity to be playing together again. They also seemed to enjoy the venue and the crowd. At one point Michael said “this seems like the kind of place where I should say tip your bartender and waitresses, in fact, I’m going to say it – please tip your waitresses and bartenders”. The crowd showed their appreciation and enthusiasm throughout the two plus hour show. The band played nothing but great tunes and the audience was helping with the vocals whenever the opportunity presented itself. Michael’s guitar playing technique, tone and style are unparalleled and Joey and Phil’s performances were equally brilliant. As you can tell I’m a bit of a fan and was not disappointed in the least. This is the third live Dada show I have seen and I’m not sure how they could improve on the performance or vibe of this show. Dada is what a rock band should be…

I must say....it can't get better than this!....can it? I've seen these guys four times....and I still can't get over this last show at Kryptonite! It was truly Awesome! The atmosphere was intimate, that of a semi-small party...I Loved It! Great tunes...great friends....great beer! Who could ask for more? Me!! More, More, More....and then some! Looking forward to catch'n up with Joie, Phil and Michael again! Hurry back!

Hey dada freaks! Found out about the Rockford show the day before and decided to make the 1-1/2 hour drive from Wisconsin. Thought it would be a good place to try to get the boys to sign a guitar. So I bought one on my lunch hour at work that day. Anyone who was there will remember me as the crazy bastard that just couldn't wait till the set was over. I went up through the crowd with the guitar held above my head. Phil said over his mike, "Uh oh, here comes so guy to jam". Much to their relief I thrust forward a huge sharpie marker indicating my intentions. Gurley signed it right there and wrote, "You rock my ass". Then Joie told me that they would all sign it after the show. I promptly withdrew into the crowd. Even though it was somewhat rude of me to do what I did, I tried to be fairly considerate. I hope it was taken in the spirit intended by everyone there and by the band. They did all sign it after the show and Joie made the smile symbol that's inside the last cd. The guitar is really cool! It definately has powers now!

But the gig was fantastic! Joie's vocals were just a tad off on a few songs, but his bass playing was totally solid. I really appreciated his bass playing at this gig. Gurley and Phil were flawless. I thought they might be in better form because they have been playing out more with BFJ and their other projects. But it was just so cool to see them in a small bar. I can't imagine they could have made much money on that gig, so it was amazing they even did it. They are such a great band, the songs are so good. I am not usually such a drooling fan, but I was out of my mind. Sorry for going on so much here!

Had tickets for Park West but didn't make it due to the late night in Rockford. The 4 jacks on the rocks didn't help either. See you in St. Charles...maybe with another guitar???

Hi Liladaday!

Glad you didn't think I was rude. You came from Iowa? Wow, that's impressive. Did we talk? Buying the guitar was kinda risky, what if I didn't get them to sign it after all. That would've been a bummer. But it worked out. So what are you going to bring to St. Charles for them to sign? Hope you are having a good day.
