We drove all the way from Bridger Valley WY to see the guys, and also to meet the many wonderful fellow fans there at the show. The show? It was great from start to finish. Sandy sez she will post the set list for all of us. It was obvious to me that the guys were enjoying themselves and we REALLY enjoyed ourselves. To my recollection, they did 6-7 songs from Puzzle, 3-4 from AHF, 3-4 from El Sub, but only 2 from dada 4...am I even close? (heh heh heh). I liked the Kinks & the Beatles bits, as well as Boogie Fever...WOW!! More later, my friends...

The show was badass. I really enjoyed meeting Chris, Phredd, Sandy and the whole clan that was there. My wife loved the show, the guys totally rocked, I think they played 18 songs. After the show it was weird, I was chatting with the guys and really enjoying myself, when suddenly my phone rings, it was Chris telling me my car was being towed. Apparently his was towed, and some commie bastard tow truck driver was about to runn off with my car. Not cool. So I ditched out on the party, and paid $50 bucks to get my wheels outta hock. Looking back it was pretty funny. The show was incredible, the guys just kept playing and working it. What performers, what a great time. Also, did any of the rest of you have an error message most of the weekend? Oh well, if dada comes to your neck of the woods, DON'T MISS THE SHOW FOR ANYTHING.....YOU WILL NEVER SEE A SHOW THAT GOOD EVER AGAIN!?!?!?!?!?!?!

When we got back home about 6PM Sat., I tried immediately to get a msg here but the page was down...perhaps it crashed with all the excitement....heh heh. Anyway, I should add that this was Reeda's first rock concert and she loved it!! Sorry you missed out on some of the after-show stuff E; the guys were very gracious & friendly, tho very surprised that we came so far to see them...I got autographs on all the sleeves & BJ sleeve as well!! I got the pics out of my (cheap) digital camera...the real-film ones will be back by the end of the week!! Rock On!!!

Here's the set list. I was standing right in front of Joie and just reached out and snagged it as soon as they were done.

Dim
Play
Sur
Trip
Feet
Here
Sick
Heaven
Ask
Info
Feel
Moon
Posters/Dizz
Bob
Baby
Cali
BF (boogie fever)
Dorina

It was so much fun meeting everyone and the show was great! Joie, Mike and Phil are the nicest guys and they all signed the set list and my ticket stub and listened to me babble about how great they are and let my husband take a picture of me with each one of them. Even met Mike's cousins from AZ. At first I didn't believe they were really his cousins, yeah right, like Gig is his brother, but they really were his cousins and they were very nice.

My ears were ringing all of Saturday and I had a charlie horse in my calf from jumping up and down but it was soooooo worth it. I was wondering what happened to Ethan and Chris - looked around to say goodbye but you were gone. What a drag about the cars.

There were a ton of cool people I would have liked to stay around and talked to; but once I got my car back if figured if I went back in the theater I would have needed a beer to mellow out, and one more beer would have made me fall asleep. Plus I am not to big on drinking and driving.....Regardless the whole show was awesome.

They did a couple of bars of the chorus of "Tired of Waiting For You" in one of the songs...and the Beatles riff came from the opening drums on "Tomorrow Never Knows"--they seemed a bit lost for a moment before Joie said "sing it Phil!" and Phil sang the first coupla lines in that one. "Boogie Fever".....just awesome!!!

The show was AWESOME! I was standing at the stage just to the left of Mike and got to witness his tasty solos up close and personal.

Maybe it's just me, but the boys seemed genuinely thrilled with the crowd response. I hope we exceeded their expectations!

I'm just glad that you had a car to get
you back home, luckily I crashed at some
friends' house and got my car the next day.
o.k., moving on...

I was happy to finally meet everyone before the show. You would never think
that we all would have anything in common just by looking at us and thats so cool.

Oh yea, met this guy at the back before the
show and he asked me if I liked dada, I said "yea" of course. He said
that he did also but that his dad was a huge fan. I thought, how cool
is that, this guy was like 20-something and hanging with his pop whom is also a fan.
I dunno, you just don't see that these days.
Kinda met Nicki and definitely noticed singlemalt. We were all right there in front
soakin it all up.

The performance was great but one thing that I really noticed was Phill's "fills". I
think that playing with all those fellow percussionists in Blue Man really reflects
in his playing these days... ;)
Joie was solid as always while giving a true showmans effort and Mike was
having fun with a few arpeggios that even made himself smile.
Tone was great!

The crowd could not have been more receptive and I was psyched that so many
came-out and sreamed for the encores.

I am still reflecting on it all and will chime-in when I think of anything relevant.

i was in such a tizzy while it was going on, but, Chris thanks for saving my ass re: the car situation. That would have sucked trying to figure out what I was going to do. Oh well, it all worked out. It was pretty cool joie handed a bunch of people cups of beer, and somehow I got one. I have never been given beer by the band playing at a show. That was pretty neat. Sometime all of us message board geeks will have to get together and have dada party....course who knows maybe they will be back through this summer.

You just don't see concerts like that anymore! The guys really looked like they were having a blast on stage together, and the music was extremely energetic. Mike's guitar playing was as good as ever; he went off on some wild solos in a few of the songs, while still managing to maintain his showmanship as his fingers worked. Phil had to deal with the amazing rotating drum mics that never stayed in the same spot for more than five seconds, but he adapted well.

Boogie Fever was pretty unexpected. It took me a second to register that I was hearing Dada play disco... is there nothing they can't do?

PS - I caught one of Mike's guitar picks. It bounced off someone's head and landed at my feet. Kudos to whoevers cranium that was.

I took two cameras with me, a cheap digital thing with no flash and a 35mm w/ a flash. I was up in the balcony above Mike and actually got a pic of him looking at me. Just after I flashed, he sorta flicked the edge of his eye and shook his head, smiling. After the show I apologized but he said he didn't mind..."take all the pictures you want". That roll of film is on the way to be developed so it's the pic I wanna see!!!

What a busy, busy day I'm having. I'm going to try (with a lot of my husband's help) to get our pictures cleaned up and posted so everyone can enjoy them. Ethan, on the reunion idea, sounds like fun. I go to Ft Collins periodically to visit my friend, Laura (the one I was telling Chris about) and I'm thinking maybe Memorial Day might be a good weekend to go. Will you guys be around or do you have camping plans?

From the moment the “oh so cali” surf music began playing between sets, one could feel the imminent arrival of the dudes from SoCal. The absolutely heinous music some misbegotten soul from the Gothic had chosen to play between sets had finally ended and the boys were in the house. The incredibly long wait was drawing to a close. Papa-oom-mow-mow (the old Rivingtons/Beach Boys chestnut) stirred the crowd, it was clear to the true believers that the 60’s Cali tunes heralded the arrival of their heroes. When the lights dimmed and Canned Heat’s On the Road Again kicked in, the crowd rose as one and began clapping and shouting their welcome. Joie, Phil and Michael took the stage. Joie and Michael appeared to be in competition for the ‘silly hat’ award. On the Road Again played on as the boys tuned up and generally got ready to rock.

The opening chords of Dim hushed the adoring worshippers. If we had all been given some green paint and some blue paint, I am sure everyone’s face would have been painted. The playlist had fourteen songs to start, each a gem. As they wound their way through old favorites like Trip With My Dad, Feet to the Sun and Ask the Dust, their playing and harmony grew stronger and stronger. By the time Joie sang Moon, his voice had reached full flower. When he gets warmed up, the dude has some pipes for sure. Phil. When I first heard dada, Phil was just in the background. Over the past 10 yrs and 4 CDs, he has become as integral to the sound of the group as either of the others. At this point, he is one of the premier rock drummers in the world. Yes, I put him in the same category as Kenny Aronoff, John Bonham, Ginger Baker and Charlie Watts. Phil is a truly superior drummer who can bang with the best of them, keeps immaculate time yet can also play behind the others when appropriate. Phil opened Posters with an intense solo that truly showed off his versatility. The crew finished off the regular set with the best live version of their one and only bonafide ‘hit’ Dizzkneeland that I have ever heard. It was inspired and extremely clean, staying just close enough to the CD version to be a good fit on the forthcoming live album made with songs culled from this tour.

The encore opened with Michael ‘taking’ requests. The first tune they played was Bob the Drummer. It’s a good one, but has not been one of my ultimate favorites.... until now. Michael’s vocals and sublime guitar on this choice totally blew me away. Michael briefly dazzled as well with a very short snippet of the Beatles’ Tomorrow Never Knows. This was a true tease. The full song with extended jam would have been most welcome. They ‘ended’ with California Dreaming. After another raucous ovation, they came back once more and started out with Boogie Fever. Alas, the end came all too soon. From the silly Boogie Fever, they launched the final song of the evening. Dorina, to my mind is their ultimate live song. And it was every bit the grand finale. Soaring vocals and guitars, drum crescendo, Dorina has it all. It was a fitting end to the evening. When the lights came up, it was with total reluctance that we made our way out into the cool Colorado night air.

Show at the Gothic was amazing. All three of these guys are such excellent musicians. Why Mike Gurley isn't talked about as one of the great guitar players is beyond me. If you get the chance, make sure you see this tour. They ripped it up huge!

Andy's list and review are great, but he's confused a bit about which Beatles song Phil sang a verse or so of between "Baby Really Loves Me" and "California Dreamin' ".
It was "Tomorrow Never Knows", the last song on the Revolver album and a Lennon-penned gem recorded in April of '66, not "Within You Without You", which is the lone Harrison composition on the "Sgt. Pepper" album recorded nearly a year later. Phil sang the "Turn off your mind/relax and float downstream..." lyrics, and did a fairly good job of duplicating Ringo's great drumming as well.

I really loved this show--after a nearly 5 year dada drought (in the Denver area at least) it was good to get a 'fix' again. This was my sixth dada show since '92 and may have been the best in terms of sheer impact on me--maybe because I had never had to wait so many years since first seeing them at Herman's Hideaway(just a few miles up Broadway from this fine venue, and too tiny to accomodate them anymore). I actually found myself getting a bit choked up during the first few minutes of "Dim" at the onset--it almost felt like some sort of long lost family member or friend had suddenly returned.

Sticking around and talking to each of the guys was a real treat as well. They genuinely care about and are very appreciative of their fans, and talked about enjoying the show almost as much as we fans did. We're fortunate that they have a strong positive feeling for Colorado and that we can count on them including Denver or Boulder in whatever future plans they have. I'll return to the discs now to get me through the next drought--which should be shorter than the one leading up to May 2nd.

From my balcony perch, I too recognized "Tomorrow Never Knows", but the guys were a bit confused I think. When Phil sang the first couple of lines, the first few words were not audible to me, as he had a problem getting the mic fast enough.
As a huge Beatle fan, I immediately recognized that drumming. "Within You Without You" has those wimpy little bongos; Ringo's drumming on "TNK" is like God...laters.

I have this friend out here in Bridger Valley, a self-styled artist/philosopher I'll call Mr. Hegel. I hadn't seen him for several weeks when he came into my work to have a cup of coffee yesterday morning. When he asked me what was new, I told him about seeing dada in Denver on May 2..."Well," I added "it was really in Englewood." He was very interested then; when I told him it was at the Gothic Theater, he amazed me when he told me that he lived about 3 blks from the theater for 20 years or more. He used to do odd jobs for the owner in return for free movies. I mean, WOW...how weird is THAT? Just something that's had me going for a day or two......Peace!

I was wondering how much of a crowd was up on the balcony. I saw a bunch of fans at the rails but wondered how full it got up there behind the soundboard.

I'm still thinking of taking a quick trip across KS to see them at the Hurricane on 5/28.

If they were playing KC on a weekend I'd go and share the driving but just not an option right now.
