rocked! just as good as ever. mike was perseverating on his rig a bit, but understandable.

full house too! 9th time i've seen them, and it was sweet...mike still has a lock on that tantric stare out into the audience while he cuts a riff.....

i think they dug the huge crowd and energy. nice little snipit of boogie fever as well. only regret was they played a very short version of posters. oh well....

way to go guys!!! please come back soon. they know they'll always have a huge crowd in Mpls!!!

can't believe ticketbastard was selling tix for $3.50!!!! the bendover charge was almost as much as the ticket itself!! unreal...

dada is the best.....

Were you standing up front? I was talking to a guy that said he got tickets for $3 or something - we were right up front and center.

It was my first dada show - and it was killer! I got tons of pics that I'll be sending here soon. Joie handed me a beer (thanks, Joie!) and stamped my arm with 'DADA is EVERYWHERE' It was an awesome show.

I can't wait until the new discs come out!

Long live dada!

well stated, mg. the boys were AWESOME and everyone had a blast-- especially me. started out at Gluek's, hoping to see them again but no. went over to the lone tree to score a couple extras from tallion-- thanks again man, that was sweet! then got to first ave right at the end of the opening act and got a great spot (up front, left) for our huge group. you could tell it was gonna be a wild night when joie came out in this orange wig and they cranked out dim-- the place went wild. they played a great setlist, including two of those i requested: heaven and nowhere, and baby really loves me (THANKS GUYS!) you could tell they were having a blast, especially compared to the night before. joie even said something about moving here (DO IT!) mike promised that they'd hang after the show, meet every one of us and sign anything and everything and they did. phil even signed a drumstick for me (YOU'RE A MONSTER!) oh i almost forgot another highlight was when i turned the tables on joie and bought HIM a beer-- he took a huge swig off the 20 oz. Heinie, put it on his head, and let the foam run down his face as they took their last bows. i'll be submitting some of the many photos i took. hopefully they'll do the show justice, 'cuz it was the best out of many great ones with this juggernaut they call simply dada.
over & out

two things stand out:

1. of course the lighters overhead during info undertow

2. mike leveraging the nice sustain on his strat and knifing out some notes while pointing into the crowd (those that were there know what i mean)

other notes:

poor joie must have scrambled brains from all of his head shakin, but i love it.

mike still has all of the self stimulatory behaviors from when i first saw them open for material issue in 1992 in st. louis.

a) perching one leg on the other like a stork
B) quick running in place when excited
c) tantric stares and face twitches when soloing

these guys are so underrated and underexposed it's sick. they made sting look like brice when i saw them open for him in 94 in st louis.

there's so much crap out there going platinum these days, i just hope the good karma comes back to benefit these guys, because they have unbelieveable talent...

name another band where EVERY song sounds different....not the junk on the radio these days. sick.

I had the right side of the stage covered. Watching Mike play guitar up close is a wonderful experience. He overcame some early equipment issues and really put on a clinic with the guitar. After they opened up with Dim, he just couldn't wipe the smile off his face. Or ours! It seemed like he was adding extra guitar solos wherever he could. I thought I noticed a couple of times where both joie and phil had to start watching him to see when he would finish so they could continue with the song. Phil was pounding away on the drums like a man on a mission. He had a rock solid night and when he opened up Posters with an extra few minutes of drum work, i was rocking all over the place! Talk about favorite songs and stuff, I think the first 60 seconds of Posters is the greatest intro piece ever played. To hear an extra 4-5 minutes of it was sweet! I didn't get to see much of joie from my spot except for when he was at the center of the stage. It sounded like he was doing all kinds of crazy shit over there. I moved upstairs for the oncore and had a great view of them all.

Correct me if I am wrong, but did Mike run out of picks at one point during the night and have to get one from the audience?

The sounds was great but it seemed like the vocals were muffled. did any one else feel the same? I know I had trouble sometimes picking up the words.

The crowd was prolly around 1200 or so. maybe 300 or so short of a sellout. A comment Mike said about how happy he was to see so many people when there was no advertising for the gig at all made it sound like they are only warming up for the official new CD tour later on maybe???

They came to the side of the stage after about 15 minutes and started signing autos and rapping with the crowd. I am kinda curious if anybody else was able to score a posterbill ? I walked in just as the warm up was ending and noticed a posterbill right at the front door. i didn't bother to check if anybody cared or was watching, I just started peeling the all the tape off the wall until I got it! I though about geting it signed but autographs don't do a whole lot for me. And no it won't be up on ebay ever!!

AS far as ticket prices, I was more than willing to pass on a couple extra tickets for less than what i paid for them because that is pretty much what a dada show is about. Regmo, glad they were put to good use! Met a lot of very cool fans, some could barely even contain their excitement. And it showed! From the time dada came out until the very end the crowd could not stop screaming and yelling like crazy!
It was a wonderful thing...

I will say this, regarless of the price I would go and see them at First Ave anytime. But if they were playing the target center or even the smaller theater type places where i have to sit in a seat and not be able to enjoy a cold one, it is pretty doubtful that I would go. It wouldn't be the same as what I experienced last night, and that is exactly what I was looking for...

It was incredible. I can barely put it into words. There is NOTHING in the WORLD like the feeling I get right when they start Dim, every single time. That is such a drive-your-car-really-fast-with-the-windows-down song. If it were possible to physically crawl into a song, any song they played, I'd have done it. Makes me sit and shake my head. dada fans rule, everyone was so nice!! Now.....when's the next show?!

Excellent reviews. I was also near stage right (Mike's side). I must have been near Tallion. I know that I was behind Elizabeth and her two friends. It is always a treat to see a band and their fans enjoying themselves like that. I have seen dada about 6 times and it was one of the best. A friend of mine was able to record it on a MiniDisc recorder, but I haven't heard how it turned out yet.

Thank you everyone for helping make this the best show of the year in Minneapolis!

Dude,

Did they really change the set list from California Dreaming to California Gold? Although they did a GREAT job on CA Dreaming at the Gothic in Denver, CA Gold would have been my choice. Also, I'm thinking your ??? was probably Baby Really Loves Me since your set list posting matches exactly the set list I snagged from the stage and had autographed in Denver.

Can't wait to see them again
and again,
and again...

Yep, it WAS Baby Really Loves Me (a personal fave) and you're right about California Dreamin' too. Hey Tallion, it was Joie who needed a pick and it was my buddy Sparks who helped him out. He's a player who always comes prepared. ***

I was going of a copy of the KC playlist and had moved up to the balcony area for the encore. When they started playing Dorina after Boogie Fever, I just thought to myself, what the hell song was I just singing a moment ago. Right on the cali song too, it was dreaming. That was funny with the pick shortage. It reminded me of the Cheap Trick guitarist who usually goes through a thousand or more picks a show!

chickenman, keep us posted on the results of the recording. I would like to snag a copy, if possible...

looking forward to the next show! I think I am going to schedule in a trip to the San Deigo area come this July...

The concert at The Avenue on 5/30/03 was so great I could hardly contain myself. It's amazing that three guys can crank out that much sound! These guys are so talented-I would take a bullet for any one of them to ensure their music plays on!!! I drove around Saturday with Puzzle cranked as loud as it would go-just my way of spreading the gospel of DADA!!! Why aren't these guys getting airplay????
