The boys were terrific as always. I can’t produce an exact set list, so I’ll just say that it was basically the same as those I’ve seen listed for past shows. Which is fine with me because it’s a great collection of songs. One thing I most like about dada live is how some (most?) of the songs get extended with little jams and/or snippets of other songs.

Joie did the orange wig thing, the complain about his hair thing, and the put on / take off the Ducati hat thing. Oh yeah, he also did the totally kick ass on bass and vocals thing. I’m convinced he’s got titanium bolts in his neck to keep his head from flying off when he starts totally rocking out. Either that or he’s related to Angus Young. Before "Heaven and Nowhere", Joie said he'd recently been listening to Led Zeppelin and learned that "sometimes words have two meanings."

Michael was decked out in brown leather pants, a brown western-style shirt, and the ever-present chapeau. I usually watch Michael the most because his fretwork just blows me away and last night was no different. He was in good sprits and exchanged the usual banter back-and-forth with Joie. I didn't realize until this morning that I don't recall him doing "the stork."

Phil looked quite dapper in a bright red shirt which looked like it was soaked by the end of the night. I watched him more closely than usual because two people in our group were drummers. They were both impressed, as was I. One of them was a dada first-timer and halfway through the set he said, “These guys are great!” and I said, “Yeah, that’s why I see them every chance I get.” and he said, “Well, I’m gonna be seeing them a lot more now, too.”

After ending the main set with DKL, the band returned for an encore. For some reason Joie was late in getting back to the stage. Since there was only a guitarist and drummer on stage, Michael stepped up to the microphone and said, “I guess we’re the White Stripes.” There was a large disco ball hanging above the dance floor and when Joie returned to the stage he pointed at it and asked, “Who’s in charge of that ball?” It immediately started spinning, got a spotlight on it, and the guys broke into “Boogie Fever.” I’d seen that on past set lists posted on the board, but didn’t believe it until I experienced it for myself. After that they played “Jenny from the Block” with Joie on vocals. I still have no clue what the hell that was all about. They then played “Baby Really Loves Me”, “Dorina”, and another dada show was history.

Now that I don’t have a dada show to look forward to, I’m really gonna start Jonesing for the new CD.

jrdada's review was great and covered most of the highlights. A few thoughts of my own:

My 14 year old son Alex and I headed down (from Seattle) to Anaheim on Friday to visit Mickey. We stayed at the Dizzkneeland Hotel which made going in and out of the theme parks really easy. On Saturday evening we caught a cab down to the Galaxy Theatre. We had front row dinner table seats (btw the food wasn’t great). This was my son’s first live rock concert. He has listened to dada for the last 10 years and did not even know it (because I'm always playing it). He had a blast and loved being on the floor right in front of Michael. Sitting through the four other acts to get to the real show kinda sucked. dada did not get started till about 10:45. But…..they played for two hours and rocked. Alex and I located ourselves on the floor in front of Michael (he is so awesome to watch play up close).

The vocals were a bit hard to understand up close to the stage as the monitors are facing the band, and the PA speakers are facing out towards the seats and dance floor. I also noticed the lack of Michael's "stork" thing. One thing I really noticed is how much fun Michael has while performing. He has this sh*t eating grin on his face most of the time, he seems to just love playing and singing for the crowd, like he is in heaven. Exhibit A: http://skipjohnson.com/dada/SantaAna/Dizzk...kneeland040.jpg. Joie rocked as usual and sang as sweet as ever. Phil worked his @ss off as usual, especially on posters. I wish they had played California Dreamin’……I’ve always loved hearing the German (1992) rendition…but they have not played it in the two shows (HOB LV and Santa Ana) I’ve been to. Anyway, I really enjoyed the show and meeting some other folks on the board.

We asked him about "the stork," or "the flamingo pose" as we call it. He pointed to his leather pants and said -- how can I in these?

I wish they had played Jenny from the Block at Cane's last night! That sounds like a riot!

The Galaxy is an interesting venue.
It used to be a dinner playhouse theater, and now converted to mostly live shows.
I'd agree with Skip that sitting through 4 other acts made for a long night.
The vocals were difficult to hear for all the other bands, and when dada hit with dim it wasn't much better, but Michael motioned for vocals several times and after that it was decent enough.
Also a cool thing about the Galaxy was the large area floor right up front to the stage.
Several of us hung out right off stage and felt like we were really part of the show.
The guys were tighter than when I saw them in March, which makes sense.
Michael always blows me away live.
Phil was nothing short of amazing, he is one of the best drummers out today.
This night I have to say Joie truely impressed me. His bass work on boogie fever, and his energy through-out the night was dynamic.
Man, don't want to believe they were here and gone.
Like jrdada will be looking for the new Cd.
I'm hoping some of the camera work they had going throughout the entire set becomes something available too.

Great night!
Good band!
The crowd cried out for more.

I thought that all but the last opening band sucked... In fact, that's how I found my way to this Board, trying to get the name of the Band. Their sound was F'ed up, true, but it was from that metal-head drummer and his HUGE rack-welded kit-- you could hardly hear the singer (who had a kick-ass set of pipes).

Also, I thought that Joie was saying "Joie from the Block" on the J-Lo knock-off. It was hilarious either way.

If anybody knows the name of that last opening band, let me know... I thought it was "Month Without Sundays", but Google yields nil.
