Well, the guys sure showed their professionalism last night by playing a great set to ~50 people. The place was empty. But, there was no promotion of the show that I could see. Nothing in the weekly entertainment paper. Nothing on the House of Blues e-mail list, of which Cane's is a part of. And, tickets didn't even go live on Ticketmaster until a week or so ago. To top it off, the house P.A. sucked monkey nadz. The vocals were lost, and nothing was coming out of the right side except for bass, and it was clipping quite badly. I guess Mike lost one of his Mesa 2C Combos recently to repair, and the other one went out last night during sound check. It was on for show, but it wasn't even miked. He had a Mesa Dual Rectifier Head and 4*12 that I've never seen him use (12 concerts over 8 years!). The guitar still sounded good, but I think he needs those combos back. There's a Butterly Jones show at the Whiskey on Friday, and he mentioned to us how he needed those combos back!

At any rate, the show was first class, although missing the standard encores and staples like "California Dreaming." The guys hung out for quite a while after the show just chatting, and it was a nice silver lining in a disappointing night. Another highlight was their willingness to play some requests, including one I haven't heard since the AHF tour: Mary Sunshine Rain, and 2 attempts at Gogo. My request for California Gold got shot down (again), and when I talked with Mike & Joie after the show, they both had that same "it's too much hassle to play that one" look. I don't know, I saw it during the 4th album tour, and it sounded killer live.

Here's the Setlist:

Here Today
