here it goes... I am sitting at work after getting in at 3am last night driving down to Bowling Green OH from Ann Arbor Michigan and I feel old... But no pain no gain, and what a gain there was.

I arrived at about 9:30pm and drove past the bar to park and thought man this is gonna be a tiny show. The bar was quite small and i thought i am going to be silly close. And I was...

Despite the size of the room the sound was quite good for the show... The turnout for the gig was lackluster at first but as the evening wore on the college kids came out to drink and their was a party going by the end.

The opener was called The Big Creak and they were very solid musical players who loved to noodle in impressive fashion not unlike dada. They were nice guys and a good choice to warm up our boys.

Talked to Mike before the show and he indeed appeared to be hurting and said so. He looked very troubled and my spirits were dampened because I was unsure he would be able to perform. All i can say about that is if he asked for prayers and you believe in that kind of thing give this guy all the positive vibes you can spare because he was like an ailing pitching ace who brought his "A" game and damn the consequences. He did a bit of painful flexing and to be in that much pain and to play at the astonishing level can only be described as miraculous. I for one am praying for you Michael!

The band played a pretty typical set list of what you had seen on the board here. No"Dorina" at the end because they played right up 'til 2am. They closed with "California Dreamin'" and they really seemed to mean it because it was freaking cold in Ohio. I walked out to frost on my car and the band and the California crew didn't seem to be big fans of the change of seasons.

As for the show what can i say that has not already been said. The guys mega jammed and gave it their all just like the pros that they are. One fun point was the front door was right by the stage and Joie played out on the sidewalk during a couple numbers. Phil's drum solo before the abbreviated "Posters" was silly good and the local college people were dancing on the floor unabashedly. Mike was simply Mike, a virtuoso. Another point I would like to make was that the harmonies sounded FANTASTIC, their was no verb or delay to be had due to the no effects send on the house board. So the vocals were totally dry and yet the singing was so tight musical. There is something seriously wrong that this band is not all over the radio...

Anyway i have rambled long enough, want to say it was great meeting some people from the board... Laura K...Marty. The dedication of the many people who drove in for the show from all parts is a true testament of the greatness of this band and the character and support of its fans.

Lastly to any of the people who might have received a CD at the show of my band, my e-mail is: thehopescope@aol.com

I would love to hear what you think of it and don't forget we will be opening for dada at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor , MI on October 23rd. Please be there with bells on...

Thanks,
Eric

Just a few things to add here. First of all, the show was--what else--excellent! Secondly, I don't know how these guys can get up for a small show after playing places like the Norva and Park West, but they rallied big time!

As previously mentioned, this venue was small. I don't know what their listed capacity is, but I would think it would be just about elbow-to-elbow with 100-125 people. I took a head count about halfway through the show and counted 39 people total--that includes about 8 bar employees! I don't think anyone (including Mike, Joie, and Phil) was too surprised by how small it was, because: 1) it was a Sunday night (probably the toughest night to get people to come out), 2) dada had never played in Bowling Green before, and 3) the show received absolutely no promotion beyond dadatheband.com--no radio promos, no print promos; nothing. I mean, the bar doesn't have a Web Site or even a simple pre-recorded "events" message on their answering machine!!!

But none of that mattered when dada took the stage! The guys played just as hard for this small group as they would for huge crowd. (I know...cause I've seen them in both settings.) How do they do it? It would be so easy for them in this situation to walk in, look at the crowd, play for like 30-45 minutes and then bolt. But they played for about an hour-and-a-half!!! For 30 or so people!

Anyway, I am personally unaware of any entertainers as unselfish as Mike, Joie, and Phil! All of them made themselves accessible for autographs after the show--at 2:30am! Even Mike, who's hand was "frozen" (his word) after about 30 minutes of ice, was willing to sign an autograph for me! Awesome.

Here was the set list, as I have it:

Dim
Playboy
Surround
Trip with my Dad
Feet to the Sun
Here Today
Sick in Santorini
Heaven and Nowhere
Ask the Dust (into Tired of Waiting)
Feel Me
Mary Sunshine
Posters
Boogie Fever
Dizz
Bob the Drummer
California Dreamin'

That's it. Hope all of you get to see them on this tour, if you haven't already.

Here is a pic of Joie on one of his two mid-show jaunts out to the sidewalk in front Nate & Wally's bar last night. Yes, that is the street behind him in the background. Too cool!

That picture is so kewl! :) ah ha! So you're the one that had that snazzy camera! Rawk-on!

Big Creek is very kewl. They need to travel west to the Fort!

The best show that I have seen so far. ;) You knew that I was going to say that, right? ok, but hear me out first! lol

Harmony. The boyz could hear each other ;)
equipment didn't break down! :D Phil was on a higher part of the stage! :)
they are not of this world!

Sorry to the Street peeps...
I F#&%ed up. I thought the show was 21 and over not 18 and Over. Sigh... So, I only hit places that college kids that age would hang. *hic* yup, I went to many bars before the show! lol :P

I wish the record store next to the fishbowl would have been open. I bet they would've had some dada inside. :D or at least after I left lol ;)

Ok, and check this out...
What do dada, Screech from Saved by the bell, Josh Ramsey, Eric Empson and Rob Kandell from The Hopescope, AND Nic the merch man have in common???

lol ... you wouldn't belive me if I told you! lol
It makes me smile! funny how small the world is!

It was a grand show. :) I am not feeling the best so I did the Rock-out on the bar stool all night but all is good, 'cuz I was up higher than if I would've been standing up! ha!

Ok, update on Jeremy...lol
the boy had a slow night... only had to feed joie's cord outside a few times ;)

and NIC... the dada vendor! Rawks! Make sure to send a "Hi" to him @ the shows! Told me all sorts of kewl stuff that proves the point that dada has kewl fans!

1. Donno who it was... but Some awesome dada fan made a 3-D dada sign out of wood and rope lights! Speak up if you are the sign maker! The sign totally kicks my ass!

2. I gave nic a magnet... no he didn't give me the sign sillies ... BUT he did gave me a freakin' dada lighter! (Thanks again! :) ) HOLY COW! Who is the kewl fan that made that one???? Stand up!

Uh, are you ready for my favorite story of the night???
I was fillin' up the triangle for the pool table when I noticed something moving near the end of the table (when you work with lil' ones... you just learn to keep an eye out... 2nd nature) So anyway I looked up and caught eye's with Mike as he was walkin' by... and actual REAL words came out of my mouth! ;)
dada did a grand job and even better! Very worth it!

Neat to meet up with so many kewl people who will be @ the Michigan show! (Hey Eric and Rob and Tim???) I'm tellin' ya! YOU GOTTA COME TO THAT SHOW!!! IT IS GOING TO BE!!!! The hopescope is something dada fans will dig!

So, the show was.
