Reporting From The Brickyard

It's almost 2:00 a.m., and we've made the long trip home. Man-o-man. It was a completely incredible experience. Maybe, no yes--my most incredible dada experience. Joie made me cry. Yes, it's true.
Here's the set list:
Dim
Play
Sur
Trip
Feet
Here
Sick
Heaven
Ask
2009
Feel
Gogo
Mary
Moon
Post
D12 (what the f*?@) -- somebody help me
Encore: Bob
Baby
Dorina
Somewhere in that set was a new song. It was totally great. I can't remember the name. Fantastic, though ... we've really got something to look forward to.
I have to sign off and get some sleep now. Oh: there were close to 200 folks in attendance, and I'm very proud of my hometown for that. Screw the local radio station who let us down throughout. Kiss my ass, FatAndy!
Off I go. More later. To you all who made it, you're special. Thank you. Especially thank you to Phil. You rock. And to Michael. If you're hurting, we couldn't notice it. You rock. And to Joie: thanks for every little thing. You rock.
Night, now.

Joie mentioned that he thought his cd would be out next week or so, and that the live cd would be out soon as well.
What a treat to see DADA 2 times in one week! Now, a brief rest and then on to Ann Arbor!
BTW, anyone have a good quality boot of any show? I don’t have any at all, so I have nothing to trade.
Dave

Nice to meet everyone there again and the Brickyard is a great venue for Dada...intimate, great audio, good room etc.
A big fat FU to the Columbus radio vacuum for ignoring Dada, may you all have to listen to the White Stripes in hell, wedged into a luke-warm hot tub between Al Sharpton and Puck from the real world. Seriously.
Kick ass show guys, and I broke with my 20 year ban on concert t-shirts to buy one of yours. I'll let my wife wear it!

Well put, dude! Right the hell on!
8trackmind and Swingset: Do either of you participate in 101's Sounding Board?
Still working on my show post. Glad to see all the participation and newbies in this thread. I believe you folks rock!

Our night started with cocktails at The Pointe. Some may remember my post awhile ago about getting Puzzle on the CD Jukebox at a local tavern. Cool chick, Mimi, was in for Kathleen who was off for The Big Show. Mimi gave us enough credits to play the entire disc, which we promptly did. Took the start of a nice buzz and downtown we went.
The room inside The Brickyard was a nice one. Karma must have been right, since there were no technical difficulties that I can remember. Nice stage, and a guy from Columbus’ The Big Creak was playing solo. Nice job. I wish he or TBC would post about their experiences this week. Stopped first to see Nick, The Merchandise Guy. Met him last week in Indy, I gave him more money and additional good natured shit (I think he knows that what it was) about not having my own personal copy of Joie’s new CD ready for pick up. He has got to be loving this tour and the attention. How could he not. And to Jeremy, continued fun and good tech luck … your generosity was very kind.
Around to the side and up to the bar, into Marty’s face. The kid was just beaming, talking about what might add up to be his best week ever. And who among us wouldn’t have wished that for him. Off to the can and into 8trackmind who I first met outside The Newport in May of ’97, when we were chatting about how extraordinary it would be to hear The Fleecing of America. dada: we’ll continue to wait patiently. Also met Swingset at this point – he was the second guy I accosted wearing an orange ball cap. Learned later the other is Greg who took some rather fine photos you can find a little earlier on this thread. Matty scooped me up and it was up front for show time. Now I haven’t taken a front row space at a dada show since AHF at The Blue Note in ’96. I always want someone else to have that experience. But tonight at least at this point, no one was in the Joie spot, so it was mine.
The show started and it was clear dada was back to rock Columbus again. I think Dim is the best show opener. Gets everyone singing and moving. I’m not sure why I get so animated during a dada show, except that it’s always such a thrill. So folks, I’m really not crazy … just damned thrilled to be there among my all-time rock idols and a bunch of you who love them, too.
You’ve seen the setlist. I can’t remember exactly where the new song, It’s All Mine, fit in, but this was a special treat as it was another dada first for me. I remember being just mesmerized and Matty touching me gently on the chin because I was standing there wide-eyed with my mouth wide open and in awe.
dada played perfectly and seemed to be having a whole lot of fun. Again, if Mike was having problems, he wasn’t letting on. Mike smiled and cajoled and treated us to the stork stance. I believe our collective prayers/good vibes/drinks do benefit him. We’ll keep it up for him. And this has been alluded to in other posts, but Phil is just ablaze. He is The Cat. Yet he’s just as smooth as silk. The evidence is in the boots out there. He never misses a beat, yet he never overdoes it, so he’s the perfect compliment to the guitars. And hasn’t he always played just like that? Joie just seems to enjoy it all, and how fun is that. He just pours it all on every time through the vocals and the bass and the moves. All for us. He’s always in top form. Joie, thank you for the rose. It’s still perfect, and the Scotch didn’t seem to hurt it. That simple gesture was so kind that yes, it did bring a brief tear to this girl’s eye. Another sip of Scotch and the rest of Ask the Dust took good care of that. Gotta love that Ramones tee, too.
Dorina came bittersweet as always. The perfect show stopper. Yet the show never really does end there, does it.
Kudos here again to The Brickyard. No stealing away our drinks and hustling us out the door. There was ample time to enjoy chatting up mutual fans and dada. Nice, venue … good choice. Matty, my love, you’re the best and in this very public forum, I thank you again for all you do to enhance these experiences. I’m already looking forward to our next adventure.
dada, thanks for rocking my world yet again … please come back to Columbus again real soon.

Great few nights earlier this week in Ohio...really enjoyed the small setting in BG, and the great sound/revved up show in Columbus. Dada's ability in BG to play the ball as it lied, as Shooter McGavin might say, really added to my appreciation/respect for the band. And as a longtime fan, I can say that Columbus was just a flat-out great show.
Of course, it was a pleasure to open both nights. Thanks again to everyone in the dada camp for having me/The Big Creak on the two bills...and to any of you that caught our set.
Take 'er easy.

Your set at Cols. was excellent, opening for Dada is no mean feat and you pulled it off well both times I've seen you. I'll come and check you guys out more often, keep it up! BTW, you use a GT-5 and so do I, so you get 2 brownie points for using excellent gear!

Oh yeah, while I'm here--heard a rumor yesterday that Brickyard is closing its doors, hmmm.
I heard the same thing, too. And while this is sad, I'll always remember The Brickyard for hosting an extraordinary night with dada.
JK: You're playing out and about in Cowtown. Any suggestions on where dada should schedule our Spring Tour date(s)?

Heads up, BCEG!
Little Brothers and Promo West are very fine venues. I haven't been to Skully's yet as I believe they are in league with the devil (i.e., CD-101).
