Hi all:

The Funk Box is a great venue and the people working there were great, I have to say. Met some of you bboard great dada fans - thanks for making it a fun night. Hope to see more of you in VA on Thursday!

The fellas sounded awesome, as they always do. One of the friends I went with said they did not seem as raw and energized as they did at IOTA, for example, that he could tell they had been playing together now for awhile. I figure this tour is just insane with back-to-back gigs, lots of driving, etc. And I give total credit to Michael - I have no idea how that boy can play nearly every night and give it 100% with a smile on his face and those darn arms.

Stayed late and talked to all the guys this time. As we all know, they are the most gracious and kind guys. Got pictures which I would love to post as soon as I rig up my digi cam to the ole 'puter. Got signatures, and finally my first artwork from Joie.

One of you dada freaks got Phil's set list so I am sure someone will post that. I have to say I loved the new tune (name?) with mostly Joie and Phil jamming and singing (Michael took a break and came back on toward the end to do some vocals), but it sounded so good. Cannot wait to hear it on the new CD. When they said the CD will now be avail. on Friday, I was the one whining as I want it in my hands before they leave the mid-atlantic! I know, getting greedy I am.

Thought it was brilliant when Michael said the next song would be from AHF ( I think) and Phil said "OK, but that is not what's on the list. But you're the guy in front with the guitar so you call it." Very cheeky and Michael seemed to get a kick out of it. I think they then went into "Trip with my Dad" which sounded so good. I had been listening to that tune ALOT the past few days and noticed again just how cool the harmonies are and how great Michael and Joie sound together.

More to tell, I am sure, but I am stoked that I got to see them again and have more time to talk to each of them. I offered to get them drinks, whatever they wanted (during the show Michael said he cannot play drunk), and after the show, when I asked Phil if he wanted a beer, water, anything, he said "no, but how about a hug". HOW cool? Love these guys and I would go see them every night if I could.

Looking forward to VA on Thursday!

Alright as I said the acoustics were perfect, the sound great, the soundman added some great echo on Bob the drummer, you really got to apreciat how good the harmonies are.And I really got a chance to check out the intensity of Phills drumming and timing. And also focus on all three of them at once(I was center stage front row).Out of the five times I'v seen them New Hope,Princeton,Towson,Asbury Park and Baltimore(and yes I am somewhat bragging)they were the tightest in Baltimore. They didn't do some of the sons I herd at other venues, but he sound, energy and timing way made up for it!!And didn't some of us see Mike drinking in Princeton,in fact him and Joie seemed a litle toasted there.I'm wondering if Mike is on some medication for his pain and that's why he isn't drinking. Not that it matters.

After the show after chatting wih other fans I talked to Phil and asked him about dada finances and made sure that he didn't mind me getting personal. He told me that he hasn't had to work a regular job in fifteen years. That he did have to do the Blue Man Group gig for financial reasons and sometimes things can get tight. He doesn't own a house,he rents and he owns a car.I'm surmising that the other guy's are in somewhat simalar situations. And they are paying for the whole tour themselves and it can be a little scary. They really do depend on us to buy merchandise!!So stock up folks!!I bet alot of us are in better financial straights. And I'm not trying to make it sound like their starving orphans, they are having a great time and doing what they want to do !!I was saying something to Phil and went off on a tangent about how when they tour again I want to take a week off from work and tour with them be a free roadie stay at the same hotels(I pay for my room of course)hopefully ride on the bus.And he said ok,and I said I'm serious, and he said yea it'd be cool. That would be dream come true.So I was so exited that Phil was receptive that I forgot what I was saying before I went off on my tangent.I felt foolish, but it was cool.

alright enough for now.I hope people are getting something from my drivel. But I'm having a good time reliving it in my mind.

The Joie story tomorow.I promise not as long!

what a fabulous show last night! we got there way too early and it seemed like the whole crowd was there to see the opening band. it was a strange atmosphere with everyone singing along to them, before many dada fans had begun to show up.

the funkbox was a really great venue. apparently it was just recently redone and has a state-of-the-art sound system. everything sounded great except for when mike's amp started to sound "crunchy" as he put it.

so, with the exception of megadan, there weren't really any familiar faces in the audience. i did meet a nice guy named dan, who's been waiting something like 10 years to see dada...i'm sure it was worth the wait for him! he was right up front, as was i.

i was all set to get some great pictures of the band playing, but i had only taken a few when one of the employees told me i couldn't use the flash...seeing as there was no way to turn the flash off on the camera i was using, i was pretty much out of luck. so i saved most of the pictures for after the show instead.

the setlist was pretty much the same as usual, except when it came to the new songs...they only played it's all mine. what's happening to steven wasn't even on the playlist.:( megadan kept yelling out "what happened to steven", but still they didn't play it. oh well, i heard it in nj, but i would have loved to hear it again.

when they first came out on stage, phil said something to the guys about telling stories, then he said, "no, storytime is only on sunday." lucky people who were at that concert! of course, i'm slightly bummed that i missed out on the storytellers concert in hartford, but joie did tell a little story right before they played dorina...mike and joie were living in west hollywood a few blocks from each other, and they were writing songs and all of a sudden joie started playing this bass riff. so they're writing this song and realizing that it's really good, and joie said it was like he was possessed by the devil because his hand was just going and wasn't even doing anything...in any case, his storytelling style was a bit scattered, and then phil said to him, "you're certifiably insane!" it was a funny story.

another highlight of the show would have to be during the posters drum solo...phil's drumming blows me away every time, but then joie came over and phil started drumming on the strings of the bass. awesome!!!

so, it was another great show, although the turnout wasn't so spectacular. at one point during the show mike was joking about bringing everyone on the bus after the show...he said, "i'm sure we can fit all of you on. it can fit 22." well, at least they have a sense of humor about it, but i do wish there would have been a larger crowd.

my dad and i hung out after the show waiting to talk to the guys and get things signed. my dad got michael's set list and ended up getting all of the guys to sign it. i got the guys to sign my shirt...silver marker on the cute black dada shirt-it looks great! towards the end of the night, jeremy gave me phil's drumsticks. seriously, jeremy is the best!

we hung around for a while talking with michael, and we ended up going on the tour bus for a few minutes. the poster everyone signed at the asbury park show was hanging up in front of the table in their bus:D

unfortunately, this was the last dada show i'll be seeing for a while...hopefully they'll come back to the east coast again soon...yes, i realize that i saw them twice in the past three days, but i would still love to see more. i guess i'm just being greedy;)

well, once i get my pictures developed, i'll put them up on the internet, if any of them are good.

Just curious....on the cork board, besides the signed poster, was there a handwritten letter?

I can dig it, dan. at the indy show one of the other fans thought I was security for the band and I was wishing I was bad-ass enough to be security and be on the road with them...how awesome to get to hear that music every night *sigh*

"do you know where costanza is? he was humming this song yesterday.... I have to know the name of it. 'she's a heartbreaker, love taker, brubaker run this prison like a man!' ooh, ooh! something like that... very catchy!"

Alana,
It wasn't a letter I wrote, but I did hand deliver it to Joie. My sister wrote the guys a note and I gave it to them on Sunday at the Hartford show. I was just curious becuase Joie said to me that all of the guys read the note and it was Phil who hung it up on the board. I know when I tell her this she will be quite happy.

To add to Alana's post, I must say I had a great time at the Funk Box. The acoustics were the best of any place I have seen them so far. Thus guys were so gracious too. Allow me to share a quick story of getting the set list autographed. It's true that it was Michael's...I stepped to the side of the stage right at the end of the show (we were standing right in front of Michael) to insure that I would get it. I looked up to Michael and I believe he acknowledged that it was OK for me to grab it at that point. Later when I asked him to sign it, Michael asked me to use my back to write on, so I turned around and he did just that. I couldn't read it at first in the dark club, so I asked him what it said..."nice back" was the reply, and we all laughed. :D

A scan of the signed setlist follows for those that might like to see it (Cathi ... with an I ;)

PS: The black triangles at the top and bottom are the duct tape that held the list down on stage.

Nice scan of the setlist. Yeah, I was a bit envious that you snagged that, but glad someone got it and I saw you getting it signed via your back! Very cool.

I got some good pics with the fellas and would love to post...if anyone can get me instructions on how to do so, I'd appreciate it. Got some decent ones of them playing too. I tried a bunch without the flash since I saw the guy tell folks not to use flash, but heck, a few beers later and toward the end, I "Accidentally" forgot to turn the flash off! So I am happy to share with you all!

Looking forward to tmw night - WHO's going?!?!?!

Cathi-

I would loooooooooove to go to the show tomorrow night. since i go to school in baltimore, it would only be about an hour away. the problem is i don't have a car, so i would need to take the marc train and the metrorail to the dc/va area. actually getting there would be fairly easy, but i think the trains stop going back towards baltimore at 10:30, so basically i would be stranded in dc until 5:30 in the morning.:(:( not cool. i'm trying to see if anything runs later, and if anyone knows of any other transportation options that would work, please let me know!!

hummm, the transporation sitch stinks. I wish I had better ideas other than the train. I would offer you to stay with me, but not sure if that would work for you. I am in Bethesda in a 1 bedroom apt with a very large and friendly dog (weimaraner)...chances are you would not have lots of room or get much sleep. but if that sounds OK to you, you are more than welcome to stay. I do have a pull out sofa and it is walking distance to the red line metro (3 blocks).

Getting back to Balti the next day might be a long trip as you'd have to take the DC metro back down to get the train to Balti. Not sure what time you have to be back.
Let me know if any of this is an option for you and we can try to make it work.
Is your dad going to the VA show? Can he treat you to a schmacy hotel in VA or DC after the gig? I say you deserve it!

Hey everyone, I'm a long time Dada fan but new to the board.

I was at the Funk Box show and it was the only show I have been to on this tour. It was an incredible show to say the least.
I was up front next to MegaDan, which amazed me because I didn't go to Asbury because it was sold out so I figured I would be stuck way in the back of the club.

It was definetly worth the drive from the Philly area. Hope to see the band and more of you guys soon.
