My sister and I made it to Ann Arbor about 9. We were walking up town and passed out discs with show information on it as we walked up-town to get some coffee from Starbucks. (thank you Jef ;) )
On the way we ran into a young man who was glad that we told him about the show (he remembered dada!). :D Got back to Blind Pig and met up with a TON of dadaphiles!

The show was not empty! It had plenty of people for a Thursday at Midnight! :) Sure we had room for more, but not where I was standing! ;)

Oh MY! Tons of people dancing, singing and having a grand time!
At the start of dada's set, I noticed one guy at a table who was Very sleepy and yawning quite a bit. By the end of the 2nd song this guy was jammin' with the rest of us! :)
FYI~ They will keep the live show in an archive on that website for a year, so keep trying to find it!

Michael was HOTT! Joie was Jammin' and Phil was Fab in his BIG RED shirt! ;) Posted Image

I had more fun at this show- more than any other dada show! The boyz keep playing better and better! We got to hear "It's all Mine!!!!!!!" I have never heard that dada tune before! OMG! We're talkin' radio single here folks! I swear! Mike was smilin' soooooooooooo big! The crowd- more vocal than most of the shows that I've been to ever!

Kiki, Matt, JB!, Faddy, Dave, Matt from D-troit City, Jenni, Marty, Amy, TED, ohhhhhhhh tons of dadaphiles from this board went! I can't remember all the names!

The boyz after the show were in way spirits! Everyone there was :D
My sister thinks that Michael, Phil and joie are right up there with L. Zep! Infact, I thought she was going to pull a Nancy right there when they played a little Zep! (yeah, my lil' sis is 19, but she LOVES L.Zep!

And Oh man, what other band could ever turn "I have to tune my guitar" into a freakin' SONG! with harmony!

Nic the Merch man is the kewlest! You gotta rap with this guy when you see dada and buy stuff! Killer-kind!

dada set my sister up with some kind fashion and tunes that I got to hear on my 5 hour trip home (lol we got lost for two hours lol!)

Thank you dada for a WONDERFUL nite o' MUSIC and Grand times!

my friends, today’s dada funny story comes courtesy of Laura K. She introduced me to a guy from Lansing and said he was on the 'board' - Ha!! Silly me - So all along i'm thinking he RUNS the SOUND BOARD for DADA!! After asking him several sound / audio related questions, I decided he just didn;t want to talk 'shop' Only after the show did my tiny brain figure it out she was talking about THIS board!!

Great to see so many, but I will share more about the show tomorrow - I just wanted to share a quick silly story!

I think I was at the same show Laura K. was talking about. This was my third show and I've never heard them sound better. There were a lot more people at this show, than the last time they played the blind pig. The vibe between the band and the audience was so intense. So good to see and meet so many dadaphiles. Kiki and Matt are 2 very cool people, next time the boys come to columbus, I'm there, were partying. Met faddy at the end of the show, and he snapped some group pics outside the venue. Brought my former brother in law to his first dada show and he was a little taken by suprise to say the least. He's a recording engineer and has his own studio in ann arbor. He was in awe of the sounds coming from Mikes guitar, and walked up to the stage after the show to inspect his gear. He thought Phil was the hands down the best drummer he had ever heard. As for Joie, he had this intense look on his face, almost possessd, which describes his performance. I got to meet the whole band this time!!! Live cds of the performance were available just after the show, so I got to rock out all the way back to detroit. Laura,,, I'm at a loss here, thank you for the card, it means alot. check your u2u. road trip to harborfest on the next tour.

Ok, I'll write more about how dada was coal- fire hott on stage in a bit... going to wait for the kiki report ;) but for now here's the setlist and an after show story.

Dave sch'nagged a set list and then ended up giving it to me! :o Yeah, dave gave me HIS list that the boyz wrote (looks like joie's handwritting- lol ok, I really don't know that it's joie's handwritting for all I know it could be jeremy's lol so I guess I'm just guessing!) My sis was getting joie to sign the cover of the new joie cd (more on that cd later in another thread... omg! Talent must be joie's middle name! Posted Image)
anyway... while she was doing that, I kind of leaned in and told joie that this (I pointed to my sister) was my sister. (OMG! Ya know how us girls get around joie!) Amy was all :D and joie said "oh, ya you seen the set list?" Ok, I was trying to think as hard as I could (at a show that is like way hard to do). "uh, no but I loved all the songs" <- my babbling Then, Dave shows me his list! OMG! joie is such a thoughtful guy! He didn't draw a caliograph folks. :D joie is just amazing. wow!
So, dave was like "here you have to have this" and wouldn't take no for an answer!
Side note about dave -> this guy's got heart! In indy he bought total strangers beers, offered up his van to people just so that they could go to the show, gave my lil' sis his coat outside the blind pig (she wouldn't go to the car and get it because she wanted to meet the boyz so bad! lol!) and dave gave me a set list that by all concert rules belonged to him. WOW!

Set list:
dim
play
sur
trip
feet
here
heaven
ask
IT'S ALL MINE
feel
baby
post with wicked drum solo! oh yeah!
Diz
bob
do

Ok, Dave! I am still on cloud 8-track but how in the 'ell did you get joie to do that?

While I was writing this post, faddy posted ... you are GOOD m'dear! ;)
joy!

Nancy,
It was a flashback, and me wishing outloud. I'm originally from Williamsburg, so its always good to get back home.:D
If and when dada does harborfest again, I'm there. Laura , I'll pick you up on the way down if your still game. Any other takers?Btw, "oh my god" the opening act in ann arbor were quite good. The singer had some good stage presence, very animated. Good sounds coming from these guys. Eric and the boys from hopescope did a fine job as well. Eric, where are you at?

matt...I'm game if you'll swing through the dayton/cincy area. sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you...the only boarder I got to meet that I hadn't met already was james. well, he may be from the listserv, not the board. he made the comment that he'd be the one wearing the cut-off shorts. no dice on that, but since he's a guy I didn't really care. if he was a hot chick I would have been disappointed.

dada once again rocked my world. I have been so incredibly lucky thanks to some awesome people to go from being a live dada virgin to catching 4 shows on this tour. since I'm one of the 13 that bought a copy of the webcast, I also now have the first recording of a show I attended :)

they just absolutely smoked....there's no two ways about it. how in the world they can't just jam-pack a venue 5 times the size of the blind pig I'll never know. they were so tight and the sound was just awesome!

highlights for me, musical and otherwise:

**hearing it's all mine again. it was very stripped down, starting with joie and phil doing a kind of latin sounding groove and phil doing backing vocals. when mike started doing the "barry white" thang it just kicks it to a whole other level, and then he threw some guitar on top of that.
have mercy.....

**greg (faddy) trying to tell joie that ohio state was the college in ann arbor.

**how much the guys (especially mike) seemed to be digging the audience participation. the singalong on feel me. don't you was fabulous....what's not to love about getting to scream the word fuck?

**all of mike and joie and phil's solos. and..... everything that mike, joie and phil played that wasn't a solo ;) I mean it, dadaphiles...they just kicked ass and took names in ann arbor.

** the "other" unreleased tune, tuning for ann arbor

** the fact that I was there at all, thanks to my great friend kay, who is a relative dada newbie but is starting to really dig them.

**seeing the people from the board again. kiki, matty, greg, LK (and sis)....y'all rock. and dave (indycar)....dave, you're just a dude, dude....what more is there to say?

**disappointment - that I forgot to pick up a postcard to give to joie, and that I still dunno what that's all about.

I guess I've babbled enough for now. it's very late and I'm supposed to get up at 5 to go to work.... supposed to being the key phrase ;) thanks dada and all the rest of y'all in ann arbor that helped make that night such an amazing night :D

"do you know where costanza is? he was humming this song yesterday.... I have to know the name of it. 'she's a heartbreaker, love taker, brubaker run this prison like a man!' ooh, ooh! something like that... very catchy!"

After hearing all the fun that I missed the last VA show, ohhhhhh I would love to go!

Nancy, you guys are a blast! and yeah! She was so excited to talk to mike she couldn't talk! (side note-> She has won @ state debate competitions! She ALWAYS has something to say! :D I love it!) It was kind of cold outside after the show and Mike noticed that she didn't have a coat and said something nice about it and all she could do was blink! (LOL! I donno it must run in our family! :D )
I think when mike and the boyz played the Zeplin tease, they built a stairway to her heart!
awwwwwwwwwww :P

Matt~
That would be wonderful! :)

Well, I will finally weigh in on the Blind Pig show. There was much good and bad to this event from my standpoint and those who care for such details read on...

I disagree with an earlier post about attendance, for a cold, late Thursday in Michigan, I thought attendance was pretty strong. Turnout was very good early on. Scheduling was a major issue this evening.

The venue has much blame to take in the mixed review of the evening. First off dada was left cooling their heels for 2 hours before anyone would open the bar for them to load in. This caused many problems.

dada could have loaded in and sound checked much earlier as a result. Ultimately they didn't even finish sound check until 9 p.m. Which left the 2 opening bands no check, this was frustrating for all. Not to mention the extremely dirty wiring that caused buzzing problems for all bands.

Also because this got started so late doors didn't even open until 9:30pm, which left many cold people out on the street waiting to get in. Plus it caused my band, a 5 piece, to setup around the headline gear on a relatively small stage. This caused many issues.

Again having no monitor mix at all my band fought bravely through our set and hoped it turned out well. My monitors were nothing but white noise and having worked so hard to prepare for this show that was extremely frustrating.

The next band was a decent band in their own style but not well suited for this show, in my opinion, and left many dada fans scratchin their heads saying "huh..." They were a a three piece of bass, drums and B-3 organ. That's right, no guitar and nary a hook to be found. I actually thought they were a cool band for what they did, but not a good match for the evenings already slated entertainment. Again the venue booked this band.

Lastly we were told dada would go on at 11:30pm and that is why we had to cut our set short and motor thru it at that. Well, to see them not take the stage until 12am was disappointing and frustrating to say the least. Having hurried for their start time I felt screwed. Not really sure who did the screwing but my guess would be the venue again... If it was dada's managements decision to take the stage this late I would ask them to reconsider this on future events... This is a bad idea on many levels... Most dada fans are not college age and have to WORK in the morning or have sitters... That might be a revelation and one they would like to deny, but it's a fact. Asking people to stay out until 2:00am to see the whole set is a tall order for those over say 30. I found this very difficult to promote as a result.

I realize that most people were not there to see my band and I have no problem with being second banana and so on... But I felt disrespected for my skills and the hard work I did to promote the show and bring people in who would have otherwise not attended. So it goes, I am sure many would have loved to be in my position but to be given a large opportunity to perform like this and not being able to put your best foot forward was truly bitter-sweet.

So negative vibes aside, here was the upside. The gentleman of dada were just that. I spoke to them all before the show and they were all very friendly and kind and I realized that their skills were not the only thing that made me like them so much. It was great to see so many board members there, Marty, MattfromDetroit, Kiki, Faddy, LauraK and any one else I missed.

I am not sure if people were just being nice but they said my band's set sounded good in the house which after hearing my monitor mix; that is truly amazing... I hope they weren't just being nice...

Then of course dada played their usual brilliant set, and I thought there were dozens of dadaphiles there bouncing up and down and being extremely enthusiastic. I thought that dada relished coming back to Ann Arbor and said so from the stage, maybe again they were just being nice, who knows... If I had to guess I would say there was a total of say 150-200 people in attendance.

Another upside was the plethora of merchandise available that was not available at the Bowling Green show I attended a month before. I picked the official live bootleg, which of course rocks. I also bought a copy of that show's performance which also sounded pretty good. (mix wise I mean, of course) And I got another dada hat.

So that is my report of a bitter sweet evening... Did anyone catch our web cast cause I only know of one person personally who was able to get in... Just curious... Thanks

Eric

Ann Arbor is a Whore!

Okay ... that's my favorite OSU/UofM joke.

But I gotta say Ann Arbor was very kind to Matty and me. What a show and what a time we had.

I enjoyed all the posts about the show, and I promise mine for tomorrow. You see, when I take a day off work as I did for my holiday last Friday, it takes me about three days to catch up. That, plus I spent a good deal of time making a kilt last weekend for Matty. Gotta go find a nice blue ribbon now.

Calling Jen and Katie ... you both promised to post about the fabulous experience that is your first live dada show.

BTW, these two were having premarital sex in the woman's room right before dada took the stage. And I was in the middle.

(Hope that flushes them out of hiding.)

As indicated elsewhere, the band totally rocked it out all night! Having only seen DADA 4 times, and all instances have been this year, I've not seen a bad show. Ann Arbor, however was a particularly tight show! They were so pumped and full of energy, and they were spot on! Plus, they got to play a song they 'wrote 6 years ago and we finally have a change to pull it out' - Tuning for Ann Arbor!!

Great to hear the new tune Its All Mine , and meet many new faces. The band was as outgoing as always - even as we were forced outside into the Michigan chilly air, the guys were still gracious (but thinking of the California warmth). Great to meet with and talk to Jeremy, who is forever immortalized on the live recording - Jenny said he was better then sex, but she spoke so softly - poor Jeremy couldn’t hear as he worked on Joie's rig, so I amplified it a bit, only to have Phil repeat it. Jeremy is a total cool guy and he works his ass off! Another neat guy to chat with was the merchandise guy! I had a chance to chat with him as well, and he fits right in with the DADA family. Thanks to you both for all your hard work!

The tour manager (Eric?) was also very friendly while we were out in the chilly air. Although I had talked to the older guy with a pony tail a few times (not sure his name or title) this is the first time seeing/chatting with Eric. At one point he was kind enough to see if a group of us wanted a quick tour of the bus, but by that time, the guys were already settling down for a long evenings rest - but still very nice of him to stop out and chat with us. I mean, by now, ALL THESE guys have to be burnt, but there they are being totally hospitable and conversational.

It was great to see Laura and her sister, Faddy (hope I didn’t snore!), kiki and Matt and Marty and his friend.

It has been such a treat to have DADA shows on the horizon all summer long here in the Midwest. I have truly been blessed to have seen them 4 times in such sort order. While I am happy for the guys (and the folks on the left coast to be able to see ‘em) to be slowly making their way home for a much deserved rest, I’m already beginning to feel signs of DADA withdrawal. And as if to anticipate the void left in their Midwestern fans hearts, how wonderful that we now have 2 live cd’s – the DADA Vol1 and the Bind Pig show (featuring Jeremy!) With the DVD on the way, perhaps the winter won’t be so long after all. I look forward to meeting up with you all again! Good times 4 sure

oh yea - kiki - Faddy got a pic of Jenn caressing Joies leg, and I sent it to her. HAha - she had no idea faddy was on the scene! To quote her “What a surprise, I had no idea is was being taken. I guess my attention was elsewhere.” LoL by the look in her eyes in the pic, Jenn WAS somewhere else .. .. .. ..

BTW Jenn is leaving for a trip to Europe on Saturday, so we may not see her here.

:D:D

And what a night it was! If you were fortunate enough to be there or hear the webcast, you know what I mean. Not only “Eleanor Rigby” and “Norwegian Wood”, but “In The End”. Plus the aforementioned “Stairway to Heaven”, the 007 theme, “Tequila” and that one other that I’ve not been able to pin down. I can hear it in my head but can’t name it, and that rascal, Matty, absconded with the double disc set. The guys were having a great time and it showed. The crowd on the floor and elsewhere in the club was having a fabulous time and it showed. I lost my voice and my boots suffered severe spillage. They remind me, and I giggle.

We arrived in Ann Arbor ahead of schedule so we briefly toured the town, located the club, and decided on a restaurant for dinner. Checked into the hotel to get cleaned up and taxied to the club. From there we walked a few blocks to the Mongolian Barbeque for dinner. To our complete surprise and delight, we were seated right next to Phil who was watching The Series and finishing his dinner. After some hugs and well wishes, he was off and two songs later on the restaurant’s P.A., it’s dada. All I Am. Sandwiched in between ToadTWS and U2. You all know what it’s like to hear dada unexpectedly. It’s such a treat and it makes your heart sing. I got to relate this story to Phil after the show. While the music in that joint was great, we were ready for that live thing that is dada.

At the club we’re showing tickets and ID and I look right and there’s Nick, TMG, already giving me shit. Okay, so NOW he’s got my copy of Joie’s CD. That’s great, Junior, but now I need three more. No problem, he’ll even save them back along with two copies of that new live CD, oh, and there’s the deal if you buy the webcast CD, yeah, yeah, I’m definitely buying in. Nick wants his hug, too, and I oblige.

Turned to find the fabulous LauraK:) who was bearing gifts. Thanks for the treasure, pal. Another reminder, and I smile. We chatted a bit and then she introduced me to Management. Management wants to meet me? What? I did indeed meet Eric from BCEG who told me he was in for a few shows with the guys. He wanted me to know that the guys really appreciate all we do. That’s we, folks ... all of us ... you and me. Eric is one fine looking gentleman who walks that walk and talks that talk. Our paths crossed again later.

At about this time, I ran into Marty. Couldn’t believe where he was sitting. No, Marty! Not for a dada show. It didn’t last. He found his way up front when the time was right. Met his accomplice, Kay, too. A nice lady who later told me she really enjoyed her first live dada experience. Good for her. Good for Marty!

Then I met Matt from Detroit who promises he’ll be at the next Columbus show. And Indycar Dave who will put the blame squarely on my shoulders if there is not a next Columbus show. Faith, my brother ... and thanks so much for that Bud Light. And Laura introduced me to her beautiful sister, Amy, who was just taking in the whole spectacle. I don’t think Amy escaped anyone’s notice, especially Nick, TMG.

Showtime neared and I found Faddy up front with his camera. Check your U2U, Greg. All the websters found good places either on the front line or within pick catching distance. BTW, whoever snapped up that one that Mike threw to Matty, give it back. You know who you are. Give it back. Right now.

The show itself was one huge love fest. Love of dada, love of singing, love of dancing – you go, LauraK:)! Mike seemed especially animated this night. Was it the webcast? Not sure, but it was fun to watch him. Phil is quite dashing in Big Red. Again, was it the webcast? Joie played like a man possessed, but that’s nothing new. That Japanese bow has become etched on my psyche.

I’m told I was corrupting some youth there that night. In reference to Indycar’s post above, yep, that was Jen and me during the AHF solo. I was merely instructing, since I wasn’t front row. And if you heard the webcast, that bit about someone wanting hot sex with Jeremy, I may have had a hand in starting the rumor, but again it was Jen. Jen and Katie, we had a little fun that night, didn’t we? Did anyone else notice how well behaved Amy was when she spent her time up front? She was absolutely mesmerized during her time in the Joie spot.

Tuning for Ann Arbor. Just like the first time I heard "Feel Me, Don't You" ... it's an immediate crowd sing along. And there’s nothing like hearing the opening notes of DKL and seeing at least four different people turn and point directly at you. The fopah lives on and on.

I hung around after the show just taking it all in and meeting more folks like Eric from The Hopescope. Rock on, Eric, even when it’s just a test of your professionalism. You got to share the stage with dada. One hopes you’re very proud of that.

Matty got the autographs we wanted and I got the hugs I needed. Now that cooler weather has set in, Joie is sporting this fabulous black leather coat. When he hugged me that night, it was like being surrounded or enveloped in fine black leather. Oh me, oh my. Words cannot describe. My last sight of Joie that night was with an arm around Amy on one side and LauraK:) on the other. Sweet.

Soon after, the group we’d formed found our way to Laura’s car for more photos and treasure. Thank you all for a fine, fun and fabulous time in Ann Arbor. Matty: you made it all possible. You're THE BEST, and I love you very, very much.

wow, kiki, you are so lucky. i feel like we are kindred spirits (you know why ;)) and i wish i had the means and balls to go to all the shows you are going to. i really thought i would have caught more east coast shows this year but madam isabel put a cramp in my plans (and my car is still in the shop!)
ah, well, there's always the next east coast leg to look forward to (i hope!!!).
until then i live vicariously thru all your posts. rock on, sister!

You said it Nancy. We get to live vicariously thru everyone's post. I wish I was in Ames, IA tonight, don't you? Can't wait to hear what the peeps have to say tomorrow. Phil better not play "It's cool dude". I don't think I could take another post that says that........:(

Laura K - You are one lucky girl.

I'd give anything to her Phil sing "it's cool dude" or Joie sing ANYTHING from his new cd. I think my hubby and I are gonna have to make a road trip to see Joie or Uberschall.

I had to laugh at myself during the ann arbor show because I caught my jaw open a few times! lol The more I think about it; it makes me giggle!

I must look really funny watching the band with my mouth wide to the floor and my eyes glazed over from amazement!

It never gets old. Truth.

PRICELESS!!!!!!!!! :o
Lester Burnham: When I was your age, I flipped burgers all summer just to be able to buy an eight-track.
Ricky Fitts: That sucks.
Lester Burnham: No, actually it was great. All I did was party and get laid. I had my whole life ahead of me.

don't feel bad, jeremy....I was in the audience and I didn't see any hot sex, either. I got to hear some hot jamming, tho, and I did see some really cute persons of the female persuasion, so it's all good ;)

I wanted to thank you for all the hard work you did on the tour. I bet it's a fun but exhausting existence. I also wanted to thank you for the memories you helped provide me with....the drum head from columbus and assorted other stuff, as well as just getting to talk to you a little bit.

rest up and I hope we see you in the spring :)

just saw the pic...you da man, jeremy!

"do you know where costanza is? he was humming this song yesterday.... I have to know the name of it. 'she's a heartbreaker, love taker, brubaker run this prison like a man!' ooh, ooh! something like that... very catchy!"
